MySQL - access denied for user. I was using root as user , and the password I knew was correct. The reason is that recent Ubuntu installation (maybe others also), mysql is using by default the UNIX or auth_socket plugin. Now when I try to login to mysql using the root account while logged in Ubuntu as normal user account I get access denied. If I run mysql _secure_installtion I see that old settings never got set permanently.
